Promoting the rights of displaced persons in Hasakah city


Report on the "Hakaya" Campaign


As part of the "Hakaya" campaign, the Accountability Advocates Organization implemented a series of training, advisory and awareness-raising activities aimed at promoting the rights of displaced persons and residents in the city of Hasakah. The campaign included several main axes:


1. Empowering displaced youth and enhancing their skills

- Trainings:


The organization held training sessions during the months of July and August 2024, targeting 10 university students of both genders. The first session addressed "Mechanism for Submitting Complaints and Ways to Deal with Them", and provided professional guidance on how to submit complaints effectively, while the second session addressed "Strategies for Conflict Management and Effective Communication Skills, with a focus on peaceful practices in conflict resolution.


2. *Local Community Awareness * 

- *Community Cohesion and Rights of Displaced Persons*: The organization implemented two awareness sessions in the city of Hasakah, in which 24 residents and displaced persons participated, with 12 participants in each session. These sessions focused on the importance of community cohesion, the rights of displaced persons, and coexistence, with the aim of enhancing understanding and peaceful coexistence among community members.


3. Providing Free Legal Consultations 

- Legal Support Sessions: The organization organized free legal consultation sessions over two days, during which it provided legal support to ten displaced persons with the aim of improving their legal opportunities and ensuring the protection of their rights.


4. *Producing an Awareness Podcast* 

- *Podcast Series*: The organization prepared three podcast episodes on the rights and issues of displaced persons Basic:

- *Episode One*: Rights of IDPs according to international humanitarian law.

- *Episode Two*: Challenges of basic needs of IDPs and refugees and ways to deal with them.

- *Episode Three*: Guiding principles for internally displaced persons.


5. Coordination with local authorities and recommendations

- *Session with competent authorities*: The organization's team held a session with local authorities to present recommendations that contribute to improving the conditions of IDPs, including:

- Establishing specialized units to receive complaints from IDPs and residents.

- Organizing periodic training courses on the mechanism for submitting complaints.

- Encouraging dialogue between community members to enhance mutual understanding.

- Forming a special committee for IDPs in the district.

- Implementing ongoing awareness campaigns on community cohesion and IDPs' rights.

- Activating the role of local and community media in disseminating information and raising awareness about the rights of IDPs.


 Impact of the campaign: These activities contributed to building the capacities of displaced youth and enhancing community awareness of the rights of displaced people. They helped create a space for understanding and peaceful coexistence, in addition to improving communication between displaced people and official bodies.
